10 Things I Wish Every Lash Technician Knew Before Using Beauty Wave Lash Lift
Personal tips based on our experience of using Beauty Wave Lash Lift kit at QBS.
When people ask me which lash lift system I recommend, Beauty Wave is always one of the first names that comes to mind. We have actually stocked this product for nearly 8 years now we have also supplied it to many lash girls across the UK.
Our clients love to post their work on socials so we can always see their results. And over that time, we have seen some excellent results, but we have also noticed the same mistakes being made repeatedly.
The good news is that most of these mistakes are easy to avoid.
Whether you are using Beauty Wave Lash Lift for the first time or would simply like to improve your results, here are ten things I have learned that make the biggest difference during treatment.
1. Preparation Is More Important Than Most People Think
If I could give just one piece of advice, it would be this: do not rush the preparation stage.
I know it can be tempting to move straight into the treatment, especially when you are busy. However, I have found that many lash lift problems begin before Step 1 has even been opened. These are the foundations of a good treatment and happy client.
As we all know, traces of makeup, cleanser residue or natural oils can prevent the fixing gel from holding the lashes correctly. They can affect how evenly the lifting lotion works.
I always spend an extra minute making sure the lashes are thoroughly cleansed and completely dry before attaching the silicone shield.
Once again, it may seem like a small detail, but it can make a significant difference to the final result. You can find excellent cleansers & foams at our online store, but the one I would definite recommend and use often at our own salon would be QBS Foam (comes with the brush).
2. Choosing the Right Silicone Shield Can Completely Change the Result
One of the questions I am asked most often is: “Which shield should I use?”
There is no single shield size that is suitable for every client. The correct choice depends on:
- The client’s natural lash length
- The shape of the client’s eye
- The direction in which the natural lashes grow
- How dramatic or natural the client wants the result to appear
A common mistake is choosing a bigger/larger shield because you think that this will create a stronger lift.
Smaller shields generally create a more noticeable lift, while larger shields tend to produce a softer and more natural-looking curl. I always take a moment to assess the client’s lashes before selecting the shield rather than automatically using the same size for every treatment.
This kit provides 2 sets of rods so that you can find the most suitable for your client needs.
3. The Recommended Processing Time Is a Guide, Not a Rule
Our partners from Neicha have provided us with a super clean and easy set of instructions on processing Step 1 and Step 2 for approximately 8–10 minutes, albeit depending on the thickness and condition of the natural lashes.
And I also think this is an excellent starting point, but I never assume that every client requires exactly the same timing.
Some clients have very fine lashes that process really quickly. Whilst others have thicker or more resistant lashes that may require more time.
Before deciding on the processing time, I assess:
- The thickness of the natural lashes
- The general condition of the lashes
- Whether the lashes appear dry, fragile or previously treated
- How resistant the lashes are likely to be
The recommended timing should always be used as a professional guide rather than applied identically to every client.
4. Less Fixing Gel Usually Gives Better Results
Using more fixing gel does not necessarily make the lashes stay in place more effectively, do not over use it.
In fact, from what we have seen, too much fixing gel can make the treatment more difficult. It makes clients lashes harder to separate, create unnecessary residue and make repositioning more complicated. This will also extend your treatment time.
I suggest to apply a thin, even layer—just enough to secure the lashes neatly onto the silicone shield. Our aim is to keep the lashes in position without coating them in excessive product.
5. Lash Placement Is Everything
I believe this is one of the most important parts of the entire Beauty Wave lash lift treatment.
Before applying the lifting lotion, I make sure that every lash is positioned exactly where I want it.
I check that:
- The lashes are evenly separated
- No lashes are crossing over each other (Important!)
- The lashes are securely attached to the shield
- The direction of the lashes is smooth and consistent
- The lashes are not twisted or bunched together
If the lash placement is uneven before processing, the final lift is also likely to appear uneven.
Spending an additional minute correcting the placement at this stage can prevent disappointment later.
6. Leaving Step 1 on Longer Does Not Create a Better Lift
One of the biggest misconceptions about lash lifting is that leaving the lifting lotion on for longer will automatically create a stronger result.
This is not how the treatment works.
Extending the processing time unnecessarily can increase the risk of over-processing the natural lashes. This may leave them looking dry, fragile, frizzy or difficult to manage.
When I want to create a more noticeable lift, I first review the shield selection, lash placement and application technique rather than simply increasing the processing time.
7. Every Client’s Lashes Are Different
Over time, I've come to realize that clients almost never fit neatly into a single standard approach.
Lash behavior varies widely — some process quickly, while others take more time and resistance. Some clients come in with naturally strong, healthy lashes, while others may have lashes weakened by prior treatments, extensions, makeup use, or daily styling habits.
Because of this, no two appointments look exactly alike for me.
While Neicha's manufacturer's guidelines offer a solid starting point, it's ultimately the condition of each client's natural lashes that should guide your professional judgment.
8. The Final Conditioning Step Should Not Be Skipped
After completing the lifting process, I finish the treatment with the Natural Essence included in the Beauty Wave kit.
This step contains keratin and conditioning ingredients designed to help nourish the lashes following the lifting treatment.
Clients naturally focus on the curl and visible result, but maintaining the condition of the natural lashes is equally important.
Healthy lashes tend to look better and are more suitable for future treatments, which is why I consider the conditioning stage to be an important part of the complete service.
9. Good Aftercare Helps the Results Last Longer
A successful lash lift does not end when the treatment is completed.
I always explain the correct aftercare to the client before they leave the salon.
During the first 24 hours, I recommend avoiding:
- Water directly on the lashes
- No saunas
- Rubbing or pulling the lashes
- Oil-based products around the eye area
- Excessive heat or moisture
After the initial setting period, an appropriate nourishing lash serum can also help maintain the appearance and condition of the lashes.
Clear aftercare advice helps clients protect the result and get the best possible longevity from their treatment.
We also offer a good aftercare products at our store, particularly our QBS Aftercare kit.
10. Confidence Comes With Practice
Finally, experience matters! Nobody performs a perfect lash lift on their very first attempt. Like every professional beauty treatment, confidence develops through training, observation and repetition.
The more lash lifts you perform, the easier it becomes to recognize different lash types, select the correct shield and adjust your treatment approach.
You will also start to notice small details that are difficult to learn from written instructions alone. These observations are what gradually help a technician produce more consistent and reliable results.
This is one of the reasons I enjoy working with Beauty Wave. It is a good all round product, but it still allows a skilled technician to adapt the treatment to each individual client needs :)
Frequently Asked Questions About Beauty Wave Lash Lift
How long does a Beauty Wave lash lift last?
In my experience, clients can normally expect the result to last approximately 5–6 weeks. The exact longevity depends on the client’s natural lash growth cycle, lash condition and how well you educate them on aftercare.
Can beginners use Beauty Wave Lash Lift?
Beauty Wave is relatively straightforward to work with, but it is still a professional treatment product. Appropriate lash lift training and careful adherence to the manufacturer’s instructions are essential before using it on clients. Over the years in lash industry we have developed a large network of training academies, therefore if you need an advise, please do send us a message and we will connect you to the best expert.
Can I leave Step 1 on for longer?
I do not recommend extending the processing time simply to create a stronger lift. Excessive processing can damage the natural lashes. The timing should be selected according to the thickness, strength and condition of the client’s lashes.
Why did my client’s lashes not lift properly?
Before increasing the processing time, I recommend checking the full treatment process:
- Were the lashes cleansed and dried thoroughly?
- Was the correct silicone shield selected?
- Were the lashes positioned neatly and evenly?
- Were the lotions applied to the correct area?
- Were the products fresh and stored correctly?
- Were the client’s lashes particularly thick or resistant?
In many cases, an unsuccessful lift is related to preparation, shield selection or product placement rather than processing time alone.
